COLUMBA COLLEGE

The Board of Governors of Columba College entertained the staff of the college in the Savoy Lounge on Thursday afternoon, when a very enjoyable time was spent in friendly intercourse between the members of the staff, the Board of Governors, and their wives. On arrival the guests were welcomed by the president of the board (Professor Davies) and Mrs Davies. The president made a short speech, in which he stated that the board had issued the invitation to the staff with the object of giving expression to its appreciation of the manner in which the work of the college was being carried on. It was fully convinced that the college was being excellently served by the principal (Miss Ross), the matron (Mrs Walsh), and by every member of the staff. A sound education was being imparted to the pupils of the college, and) the board was gratified to know of the splendid successes obtained by its students in the various public examinations. It had always been its endeavor to keep before the girls a high Christian ideal, as well as to give them the best from an educational point of view. Replying on behalf of the staff, Miss Ross thanked the board for the very pleasant entertainment, remarking that it was good for the staff to meet members of the board individually, and thus realise that the board was something more than an abstract idea. She acknowledged her indebtedness to each and every member of the staff, and hoped that that gathering would be the forerunner of many siniilar functions in the future. Several musical items were given during the afternoon, andi were very much enjoyed by all present. The singing of the National Anthem concluded the proceedings.
