WAR RELIEF FUND. At a meeting of the executive of tho War Relic! Association in Wellington yesterday tho Now Zealand Society for_ the Acknowledgment of Debt to tho British Seamen’s Fund submitted tho annual report of the fund. The Advisory Board sent a Jotter requesting the association to act as trustees of the fund, investigating its local cases under the same system _of reciprocity as exists (between the Dominion war relief societies. Mr Macintosh stated that Mr Tripp and himsolf had conferred with the body in regard to its suggestion. They had really a largo sum of money (£180,000), and did not know what to do with it. _Mr Macintosh said he thought tho association could help tho fund by seeking people and investigating claims from their own records. The body had seemed pleased with tho idea, and bad requested the speaker and Mr Tripp to act as trustees, which they bad consented to do. Tho whole of the work was to bo dealt with by a committee. Mr Aldridge (R.S.A.) : We have spent money from our fund for their cause already. Another member pointed out that seven applications had been received since Thursday • morning. The Chairman said he thought they wore doing a good service, and that no one would be better able to deal with the matter than the association. It was decided to appoint Messrs Macintosh and Tripp to confer with tho body again. IRISH SOCIETY. Mr Ryan presided at the annual meeting of the Irish Society in the Overseas Club Rooms. The following life members were elected :—The Rev. Dr Waddell, Mr J. T. Sullivan, and Mr E. P. Nolan. During the evening the president (Mr Ryan), paid tribute to the newly-elected life members; to the Rev. Dr Waddell for his help and encouragement to tho society in its early struggles; and to Mr Sullivan and Mr Nolan, each of w;hom has in the past filled the presidential chair and given time unsparingly to tho interests of the society, ■ * On behalf of the society the president welcomed a distinguished Irish visitor, the Rev. Brother Purton, from Adelaide, who gave a short, and interesting Sketch of the work of the Adelaide Irish Society. The following contributed items towards (ho evening’s •entertainment: —Miss Brady, song, ‘ Come Back to Erin ’; Mr Seymour, songs, ‘Mother Machrce’ and ‘ Father O’Flynn’; Miss O’Sullivan, song. ‘Rory Darlm’ ’; - Miss Gallagher, recitation, ‘Hold the Harvest’; Mr Fogarty, song, 1 Oh, Steer My Barque ’; Mr Ilodgors, song. ‘The Minstrel Boy’; (Miss Hcaly, recitation, ‘How I Envied M'Ginty ’: and Mr Seymour, song, 1 The Charming Little Girl from Glare.’ The evening closed with tho Irish National Anthem.

When Charles Campbell Dawkins, the young man who is charged with causing actual (bodily harm to Dr P. M'Evedy, was before tho court at Wellington yesterday, Chici-doteotive Kemp asked for a remand to February 1. This was granted. It is understood that the case, which possesses some unusual features, will bo proceeded with then. James John O’Donoghue, aged thirtythree years, married, residing at 131 Kelbum parade, Wellington, committed suicide by hanging himself at his homo shortly after 4 o’clock yesterday.
