RAILWAY RETRENCHMENT.

A.S.E.S ATTITUDE. [Peu United V Association.] WELLINGTON, November 22. .Mr Mack, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, interviewed to-day, said he had nothing to say, but the executive of the A.S.R.S. had finally decided the attitude it would take up. The feeling of the men he represented was clearly indicated by the resolutions being passed by the various branches, some of which had appeared in the Press. None of the men represented by him were receiving more than a living wage, ami he had every reason to believe that the Government would lake notice of that fact before any retrenchment proposals were put into operation which would affect the Second Division of railway servants. lie could not seo how it would assist tho Government in its retrenchment scheme to extend tho hours, because that would throw out hundreds of men and increase the unemployment difficulty.
