After discharging there she proceeds to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers, The Raran ga left Balboa on Goto tier 9 on route from Middlcsburg-li to Auckland. She is dit« at the northern port on November 1. The Paparoa, from Wellington, arrived at Southampton on October 9. The Eemijcra, from tho United Kingdom via Lew Zealand ports, is due at Port Chalmers about October 24. After discharge she will load frozen meat and General cargo for jjondon, loading aho at TimanC Lyttelton, and Wellington. She will leave Wellington for London about November 5. Tho Kini, from "Westport, arrived at Lyttelton at 5 o'clock this morning, _ and is expected to sail on Monday for Piclon, to load for Onehunga. Tho Kahika, from Grcymmith, reached Lyttelton at 6 o’clock this morning, _ and is duo to leave on Tuesday for V\ cllington to complete discharge. Tho Breeze, .after delay in tho north, arrived hero shortly before, 8 o’clock lust night, and was to load and sail to-day, but tho weather again delayed her, and she will not sail for Tiruaru till Monday. Tho mail steamer Niagara left Sydney at noon on Thursday for Vancouver via ports. She is duo at Auckland on Monday morning, and will sail again on Tuesday. Tho Konmta. left Westport at 7 o’clock this morning for Wellington, and after discharge returns to Westport to load again for Wellington. Tho mail steamer Mamma, from ’Frisco via ports, is duo at Wellington at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Tho Wanaka, from Newcastle and Sydney, is duo at Wellington on Sunday morning.

The ivakapo left Wellington this jnornintr for Cireymonth to load for Wellington and Napier. T'ho Island steamer Tofna will leave Auckland on Monday for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa.

Tno Makurn, from Vancouver, is duo at Auckland on October 23, and sails the «uno day for Sydney. The. Ivanna left Wellington at 5 o’clock last night for Auckland, and loads there next week for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Knmona has been delayed hero hy the weather, and will now sail on Monday for Westport and Groymouth via Timaru. The Korenui arrived hero early this morning, but discharging operations wore delayed bv the rain, and sho will not get away until Monday for Bluff, Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton,'Gisborne, and Napier. SEA SCOUT TRAINING. A Special to the ‘ Star ’ mc&sago from Christchurch slates tliat at a meeting of the Dominion Headquarters Executive of the Boy Scouts’ Association, the Chairman (Brigadier-General Andrew) reported that lie had received a communication from the chairman, of directors of the Union Steamship _ Company offering sixteen boats of various sizes, now at Port Chalmers, for tha use of Sksa Scouts, at specially low prices. It was resolved tliat ihChief Commissioner, with expert assistance, should inspect and furnish a report as to the suitability of the boats for sea-scouting purposes. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Wahino, from Wellington, reached Lyttelton at 6.50 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected ■with, the first express for the south. NESTOR RECONDITIONED. The Blue Funnel liner Nestor, which arrived at Sydney m September 29 from Glasgow via ports, has been reconditionod for (ho passenger service. Tho Nestor was employed as a transport during the war, and played an important part in the evacuation at Gallipoli. The whole of tho steamer’s accommodation was cleared out in Great Britain, and almost completely remodelled. Tho drawing morn, lounge, and smoking room are features of tho steamer, while most of the cabins have been enlarged, and many converted into cabins de luxe. Those contain speciallyfitted bedsteads for two adults, with_ a .settee, a private bathroom, and a. special cabin for two children or more. A color scheme has been introduced, some cabins having a blue effect, others pink, and so on. Tho cabins, are fitted with divided portico windows, reading lamps, electric fans, and other conveniences. Tire singleberth cabins contain two porthole windows, and the three-berth cabins have three portholes. Accommodation for about 200 persons is provided in the dining saloon, which is tastefully arranged, while there is a, special dining room for children containing a, piano and other attractions. Tho ship’s hospital is situated on the top deck, and is artificially heated. An innovation in the engine-room is tho installation of the new system of superheated steam, iby which considerable coal consumption is saved.

TRADE WITH THE EAST. In order to afford Australian mcrclianls nu opportunity of direct communication bcljvcn Shanghai and Australian ports, it lias been airnnged for the E. and A. steamer Eastern on her present trip to rail at Shanghai. The Eastern ■was duo at that port on September 15, and reached Sydney on October 10 and Melbourne on Otenber 17. Direct visits to Shanghai have ben; under contemplation. by tbe E. and A. Company for snmo time pact, but the question of regular rails will depend upon trade developments.
