Bishop Averiil, in bis ad drew at the opening of too Diocesan .Synod, mlerred to the Larnbeth Conference's appeal for a reunion of Christendom. jje urged clergy ami laity to seize every opportunity of discussing wil!i any ether Christian creed sympathetically and prayerfully tho question of reunion in accordance with tho Lambeth appeal, and also urged the clergy to study the report of the Conference on tho question of the Christian faith in relation to spiritualism, Christian science, and theosophy—particularly Christian science. No man could serve two masters. Tho Ciuist of those theisms was not the Christ of tho Bible or of the Christian creed.
With regard to tho general principle of women instructing and exhorting congregations, the Bishop said that he was not yet convinced of its general advisability or expediency, but ho had no objection whatever to women (with tho approval of tho hiE.hcpJ speaking in consecrated buildings at other than regular services.
