[Special to the ‘SfAR.’J CHRISTCHURCH, October 14, Speaking at Christ's College Old Boys’ Association last night, the Rev. E. C. Crosse, head master, said ho had been approached in all sorts of ways from outside to open up channels of the various college sports. That was a thing of which he did not approve, for he thought it was largely the desire to rise the boys, as it were, 'for “gladiatorial purposes.” He was not going to allow the boys to appear just to provide sport for the public. Mr A. E. Flower, who had been acting head master at the college on several occasions, said the sooner they wore cut of! from those who did not know, understand, or sympathise with these, games tho better. The height of absurdity, he considered, had been reached recently, when a local secondary school had- to apply for permission to conduct its own boxing tournament, solely amongst its own boys in its own gymnasium. Again, Christ’s College had to apply to the Rugby Union for permission to travel to Wanganui to Dike part in an intercollegiate tournament. Sport in this country was being overridden by government, and the sooner sports were run for the sake of sport, with less organisation, the better. Overorganisation was spoiling sport in the schools, and tho sooner all got Together to put a stop to such things the better it would be for the schools and for games, V.R.C. .STRING MEETING.
