The War Office has issued certain modifications in connection with tho Ordnance College, Woolwich. The Ordnance College will in future ic known as tho Artillery College. Tim courses will bo reorganised as follows:—(a) Advanced class of two yea s' duration, commencing on the first' Monday in January of each year. It is to be preceded by a preliminary selective course »at (ho Artillery College, consisting of six weeks’ ins!ruction in elementary mathematics—i.c., algebra, trigonometry, and mechanics. In tho ease of officers of the Permanent Forces of Now Zealand an examination will she held locally in New Zealand to ensure Unit officers selected possess such a minimum knowledge of mathematics as will be likely to qualify them in the preliminary course at the Artillery' College for admission to the advanced course. Papers will bn sent out from England, and the candidates’ answers returned tor correction and marking. This course carries the “Passed Artillery College ” certificate, (b) For officers who are desirous of appointment us inspecting ordnance officers a separata course of instruction has bean instituted termed “ordnance officers’ course." Qualification in this carries the 11 C" certificate. No officers will bo sent from New Zenlaud for the course commencing Jannarv, 1923.

The award of Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration has been conferred on Captain M. T. Jackman, Otago Regiment. Major C. r; Ilercus, D. 5.0.. N.Z.M.G., has been appointed deputy-assistant director of medical services (sanitary) Southern Command. The New Zealand Army Rifle Association recently formed has for its object the promotion of interest in rifle shooting for service purposes by means of individual and collective competitions, framed as far as possible to induce practice in methods which will tend to increased efficiency on the battlefield. The association’s definition of a military shot is one who possesses (a) accuracy, (b) capacity for snap-shoot-ing, (c) capacity for rapidity and volume, (clj capacity for tiro with movement. Trenthnra Match: Open to teams of twelve Territorials, twelve Reservist or Returnedi Soldiers, twelve Cadets, or twelve N.Z. Permanent Force (one team from each command). Vickers Machine-gun Match ; Open to regiments of mounted rifles and battalions of infantry. The Lewis Gun Match : Open to brigades of artillery and battalions of infantry. Tile Hotchkiss Gun Match; Open to regiments of mounted rifles. There is also an Inter-Regimental Teams Match: (1.) Open to teams of eight from tho N.Z. Artillery, P. and T. Corps, regiment of mounted rifle?, battalion of infantry; (2) open to all Territorial units who fire table ” D ” of the annual musketry course.
