LADIES' HOCKEY TOURNAMENT. The hockey tournament was continued at North. Following arc tho remaining results of yesterday's play : .«• Hawke’s Bay A 4 goals beat Wairarapa 1. Taranaki A a bye. Poverty. Bay 4 goals, Feilding 0. Otago 3 goals beat Hawk£s Bay 0, after a fast and interesting game. The teams wore fairly evenly matched, and the defensive powers of both were good. Tho Otago shots were registered by Misses Melvin, Ridhdale, and Hanlin. Marlborough 6 goals beat Nelson 0. Manawatu B a byo. BOXING. Concerning Beckett's win over M'Cormick, the London newspapers declare that tho honors of tho fight went, to M'Corrnick, who was the superior boxer and displayed great pluck: but. he was unable to knock out life heavier antagonist, who apparently was not affected bv tho punishment, Beckett was much Wow championship form. Ho was ponderous, and seldom delivered a straight, blow, while his defence was weak, allowing M'Corrnick many opportunities to reach his jaw.
