BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

GOOD TAR-DINGS OF FAIR QUALITY. PRICES A SHADE EASIER. Sheep and cattle were in full supply at the Burnside sales to-day, and both classes were of good quality. Prices were somewhat easier, >¥llloll is very unusual, as values generally harden at this season of the year. Pigs wore only in moderate supply, and sold readily at good prices. The supply of sheep was in excess of actual requirements. Sheep.—A largo yarding, numbering 3.260 head. The quality was much above the average. The demand was confined to the trade, together with a small number of outside buyers. Owing to the large yarding lower prices had to bo accepted. Prime heavy-weight wethers were 2s per head, while light-weight sheep were Is per head below late ruling rates. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers realised from 26s 6d to 27s 3d j prime, 22a to 25s 9d; medium, 17s 6d to 21sj light and unfinished sorts from ISs upwards. Only a small number ol ewes were offered, Prime ewes realised from 16a 6d to 18s 3d j medium, 15a 6d to ISs 6dj light and aged from 11s upwards. There were a few pens of hoggets of medium quality. Thesa were sold at values ranging from 11s to 18s 3d per head. Fat Cattle.—A largo yarding, of fair quality, numbering 214 bead. The sale opened at prices slightly easier than those which ruled at last ■week’s sale, and owing to the large supply the casing tendency expected to become more pronounced before the closo of the sale. Prime bullocks realised at the commencement of Ilia sale from £l3 to £2l,- medium, £l4 10s to £l7 ; light and unfinished sorts from £9 10s upwards. Prime heifers realised from £l3 to £l4 los j medium, £9 10a to £l2; light end aged from £7 upwards. Flora Cattle.—A full yarding was offered, the quality being of a mixed character. Young and backward cattle met with a poor demand, while forward three and four-year-old fitters of good breeding and color sold fairly well at prices ranging from £9 7s to £l(s per head. Good young cows in. full milk or coming near to profit ■wots eagerly competed for, and high prices were realised. Pigs.—A medium yarding, composed of various sorts. All were sold under keen competition. Prices on the whole were a shado dearer, being about id per lb above last week’s rates. Best baconers realised from B,ld to 9,1-d per lb, and best porkers from Hd to SJd’ per lb.
