INTERCOLONIAL SERVICES
NEW ORDER OF RUNNING. MAHENO, MANUKA, AND RIVEEINA. PALOONA’S NEW ROUTE. New arrangements in connection with the running of steamers engaged in the intercolonial passenger services were announced by the Union Steam Ship Company to-day. Tho provide tor tl\e employment 'of three steamers in tho Sydney-Auckland and Sydney-Welling-ton service, while tho Paloona will in future takmtho route formerly followed by tho Huoffart, Parker steamer Westralia from Melbourne to New Zealand ports. From the beginning of October tho intercolonial services will be maintained by the two Union steamers Maheuo and Manuka, and the Huddaxt Parker steamer Riverina Those three vessels will leave Sydney for Auckland and Sydney' for Wellington on alternate trips. They will maintain approximately the present intervals between sailings, which means that there win ha a steamer sailing from Wellington for Sydney at intervals of ten days, and tho same from Auckland. The new arrangement will be inaugurated by tho This arrived at Wellington this morning from Sydney, After her cargo has been discharged she will lay up at Wellington until Thursday, October 6, and will sail on that date for Sydney direct. The Huddart, Parker liner Ulimaroa is not included in tho above arrangements, and it is presumed that she will therefore be withdrawn from the Sydney-Wellington service towards the end of this month. Tho Paloona.’s new running should prove satisfactory to passengers journeying from New Zealand to Australia. This vessel at present steams from Melbourne to Dunedin direct, and proceeds from here to Lyttelton, Wellington, Bluff, and returns to Melbourne from the latter port. In future she will steam direct to Wellington from Melbourne via Cook Strait, and will then proceed to Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, returning to Melbourne from the latter •port.
