MOTORISTS AND MOTORING
CLUB COMMITTEE. MEETING. Tho executive of the Otago Motor Club met last night, and several important questions wore discussed and dealt with, while also a large amount of correspondence received attention. The president (Mr A. E. Ansell) was in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. The .Gren Island Borough Council wrote stating that delegates from tho Taieri County Council, Dunedin City Council, Green Island Borough Council, and the Otago Motor Club met on August 19 to discuss the widening of Look-out Point road. It was decided to ask the club to contribute £SO towards the cost of carrying out the work; the Government to contribute £250, Green Island Borough Council £IOO, Dunedin City Council £SO, and Taievi County Council £SO. —It was decided to donate the amount asked for provided the other local bodies contributed as proposed. Tho Secretory of the South Island Motor Union (Mr P. R. Harman) wrote that at tho last'meeting of tho union it had been decided that a deputation of motorists be appointed to interview the mayor of Christchurch with a view to getting the four main centres to take joint action to got police control of traffic.
The South Island Union wrote stating that tho Royal Automobile Club welcomed the application of the union for affiliation, and it had been decided to affiliate with the club and forward the subscription of £5 ss. OEFICIAL HOTELS.
..The Chairman notified members that the Grand, City, Wain’s. Excelsior, European. Branson’s, and Oban Hotels were included in the list of official hotels appointed bv the South Island ami A.Z. Motor Unions. DAZZLING HEADLIGHTS.
Air P. Breen brought up the matter of lighting of cars, and proposed that the club should forward some opinion to the South Island Union.—The Chairman said he intended to go fully into the matter at the annual meeting, and he strongly opposed the attitude taken by the New Zealand Union and tho South Island Union in regard to motorists not dimming their headlights when passing other vehicles.—lt was resolved that tho Otago Motor Club forward a protest to the South Island Union against the proposal that motorists should not dim their lights when, meeting vehicles; and a request that the protest be forwarded to the N.Z. Union. The Chairman referred to the number of unpaid subscriptions, and a committee consisting oR Messrs Hall id ay, Breen, and Stevenson was set up to go into the. matter and take what action was deemed neccssarv.
