South Otago District Lodge met on Thursday of last week, Bro. J. Skinner, D.D.G.M., presiding over a largo attendance. The D.D.G.M. notified that he would bo visiting Herewcka Lodge at Tortobcllo on Saturday, September 24, and asked that aa many. as possible accompany him on Hi at occasion. Bro, Rosovcar, P.D.D.G.M . reported having visited Owakc, Lodge, and conveved greetings therefrom to the District Lodge. A. report was also received of the favorable progress being made by two soldier brethren from Southland who are at present in hospital here. During the evening Bro. J. MTvor, Degree Master, assisted by P.G.M. Bro. Valentino and officers, advanced two (brethren to the highest degree, thus enabling them to assume burner office in their respective lodges. Maori Hill Lodge meeting on Tuesday night was somewhat’ sparsely attended. There was no routine business other than the passing of a sick claim, and tho initiatory team was soon able to get down to business for 'the initiation of five candidates. The matter was broached of holding a social in the Coronation Hall at an early date, apd appeared to receive, con-
siderablo support. P.D.D.G.M. Bro. W. Smith and P.G. Bro. F. W. Joseph, both of Linden Lodge, responded on behalf or the visitors.
X.G. Bro. Jones presided over a lair attendance of members at. Leith Lodge’s meeting last Monday. Some sick claims and a maternity claim were presented and passed for payment. A small amount of correspondence was also received. One new member by transfer was introduced and welcomed. Several expected candidates for initiation ivere not in attendance', so the lodge adjourned for recreation. On resuming, very little business was forthcoming, so the lodge closed early. Linden Lodge was well attended" last Wednesday. Bro E. Brandon, N. 0., presided. Claims on the sick fund were slightly in excess of normal, and a note of condolence was passed to a brother who had .suffered bereavement. It was resolved to hold an initiation on Saturday. October 1, prior to the special meeting called for that date to consider the soldiers* memorial proposal. Later in the evening representatives of Linda Hcbckah Lodge and the lady D.D.G.M. attended by invitation a combined bazaar meeting, when arrangements were completed for the various competitions and the opening of the sale of work by the mayor. An offer from Messrs Hamilton and Dawson to provide an entertainment in tbo Roslyn Theatre vsjas gratefully accepted by the combined committee
