FROZEN MEAT TRADE
EIGHT YEARS’ RETURNS. INTERESTING FLUCTUATIONS. The fluctuations of the frozen meat industry in New Zealand during the past) few years, showing the successive effects of war and trade conditions, are interestingly illustrated in a return issued by the directors of the Auckland Fanners’ freezing Company, covering the company’s freezing operations during the past eight years. The boom, decline, and revival in the several classes of meat are plainly seen in the figures given, which indicate that, despite a pronounced decline last year in the export of sheep and cattle, the falling off is merely relative to the war boom, and that the all-round meat export is yet well above the immediate pre-war level. The figures given for the past eight years, the periods being from July 1 to June 30, are :
Years. Lambs. Sheep. Cattle. 1913x14 87,066 24,671 10.888 1914-15 117,131 95,842 21,076 1915-16 114’173 48.416 47,611 1916-17 61.351 27.297 24.561 1917-18 74,085 106,519 19,587 1918-19 - 78,272 149,211 30.741 1919-20 56.836 96,013 22,698 1920-21 75,642 67,042 16,461
