ST. KILDA CRICKET CLUB

Tho fourteenth annual report states that the members have acquitted themselves very creditably indeed, considering the number of old players who dropped out at tho beginning of last season. At the beginning of the season the Otago Cricket Association saw it necessary to reduce tho number of senior teams to six instead of eight as previously, and in consequence the St. Kilda team was dropped out of the senior competition. Two teams were entered in the competitions—one in the second grade and one in the third grade—and both acquitted themselves excellently. Tho second* grade team played nine matches, winning six and losing three, and finishing up second in their competition. The third grade team played fourteen, won eleven, and lost three. They also gained second place in their competition. It is pleasing to note that last year there was a much keener interest taken in matches by members, and on no occasion did either team have to take the held short. In the second grade team T. Livingstone gained the batting average with 24.75 runs per innings, and A. Edwards the bowling with an average of 6.6 rims per wicket. In tho third grade team C. Kettle headed tho batting averages with 18.5 runs per innings, and H. Kennio the bowling with 4.6 runs per wicket. At the beginning of the season it was decided to got a man to look after tho wicket; but this proved a heavy burden on the club’s finances, and late in the season it was found necessary to dispense with the groundsman’s services. The committee take this opportunity of again thanking its numerous friends for their liberal donations towards tho funds. With the high cost of material last season it would have been found very hard to keep out of debt had it not been for the response referred to. The committee thank the St. Kilda- Council for their attention to the playing area, and also the Press for their kindly attention to all matters in connection with our summer pastime.
