At tho Board of Trade's' inquiry into the sinking of the British steamer Suathari, ojf tho Portuguese const, on ■\pvil 19. it was found that the chief engineer ■ (Thomas Malley) wilfully scuttled the ship by opening tho sea communications with the engine room, and that tho master and tlio officers did not try to ascertain the cause of tho leak, and prematurely abandoned tho vessel. Malloy’s certificate was cancelled, and that of the master suspended for three months. There was no proof that the owner was inculpated.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
