'THE WORLD AFLAME ’
Frank Keenan appears at Everybody’s and tho King Edward to-night in ‘The j World Aflame.’ Carson Burr, head of the Burr Manufacturing Company, comes to a i keener realisation of (lie social unrest problem when his chef tells him that, if he does not like his cooking, ho may get another cook; w!ien__his chauffeur prefers “dicing" to attending to his work; and when he receives an insolent answer from a street car conductor. Burr is a man who has made his own way in tho world. Those disturbances to his regular daily routine make a. big impression upon, tho millionaire, and he talks the matter over with the mayor. That official, however, is a follower of the policy of laisscz fa ire; so Burr decides to run for mayor himself at tho next-election. Duly elected, he commences a house-cleaning campaign. In thecity is Nicolai Poppoff, a missioner from the Red Zone of Europe, stealthily undermining tho local Labor circles. Poppoff boasts to his associates that he will inaugurate the social revolution in America by a series of strikes in the city. When Mayor Burr learns that Poppoff has sworn that not a street car shall be run in tho city streets, he boldly invades the secret meeting-place of the Reds, defies tho revolutionary leader, and proceeds to the car barns, accompanied by a squad of police. The traction employees, idling around the car barn, are astonished when Burr and his bodyguard run out one of the cars and proceed to carry on the service. As the car halts before starting on its momentous journey' a message is conveyed to the mayor that his son Theodore has been captured by the Reds, and will be killed if Burr declares to flaunt Poppoff’s ultimatum. But Burr regards himself as the servant of his fellow-citizens—duty must come before . even fatherly Jove—and tho car is started, with Burr in front and with armed policemen at tho windows. The picture continues to a jlno finish. The supports include a good Christie comedy, ‘ Movie Mad. ’
