CAUSES OF DIPHTHERIA
THE CHRISTCHURCH OUTBREAK. INVESTIGATION PROPOSALS. [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH ,July 11. The mayor bus received a letter from the Hon. C. J. Parr, in reply to the •suggestion of a recent deputation _ that a commission of exports bn appointed to investigate tho cause of diphtheria. In tho Minister’s opinion tho suggestion is at present not possible of fulfilment, but ho proposed to communicate with the Medical Research Council and the Rockefeller Foundation, and to ascertain whether they purpose in thermal- future undertaking any research into tho causation of diphtheria, oifering to collaborate by supplying any information in his power. In the meantime tho. department has been instructed to give especial attention to Christchurch ami suburbs, and to endeavor by all possible moans to ascertain tho causes of tho present outbreak.
