THE MUSICAL FESTIVALS
ARRANGEMENTS JEOPARDISED,
[Special to the 1 Stab.’]
CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. The report that the Royal Musical Society will have to cancel its festival arrangements unless the _ King Edward Barracks can be made available for it has caused consternation in Wellington and Dunedin. The musical societies there are co-operating with Christchurch in bringing out a quartet of famous vocalists at a cost .of over £5,000, and should Christchurch withdraw it will certainly jeopardise the festivals of both Wellington and Dunedin, where arrangements are well advanced. Mr Caldow, secretary of the Wellington Society, is making a hurried visit to Dunedin, and returns north within the next few days. [This message refers to the movement initiated by the Dunedin Choral Society to bring out Mr Fraser Gauge and Miss Amy Evans and other vocalists for its jubilee next year. Wellington and Christchurch divided to co-operate to provide festivals throughout the Dominion, The trouble onsr the King Edward Barracks is said to be duo to paucity of exits.]
