ALLAN WILKIE SEASON
‘Macbeth’ was again played by tho Allan Wilkie Company at His Majesty’s Theatre Last evening. ’Mr Wilkie appeared in thg name part, and .Miss Hunter-V alts was well cast ns Lady Macbeth. Others who were prominent were Mr Robert Purdie ns Macduff. Mr Felix Bland as Malcolm, Mr William Lockhart as Banquo, and Miss Lorna Forbes as Lady Macduff. To-night will sec the first production in Dunedin of Shakespeare's ypllickinp comedy ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor,’ with Mr Allan Wilkie as Sir John FaDtaff. Tho performance will also be notable for being the 200th consecutive one since the inception of tho company nearly ten month;; ago. Such a record effectually disproves the dictum that “Shakespeare spells ruin.” In to-night’s play Mr Allan Wilkie appears in the, greatest comedy creation in all literature, the rascally old knight who distinguishes himself in tho HceV-'y IV. ploys. ’ It is full of quaint caricatures of English provincial life of the period.
