COURT EXCELSIOR

WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED. A roll of honor commemorating the names of the members of Court Excelsior, A.OJ?., was nnveiled in St. Mary’s Hall, Momington, last night. The roil was a handsome piece of workmanship, the names being clearly printed in gilt lettering. P.CJB. Bro. A. B. Morrison occupied the chair, and amongst those present were several members of the District Executive of the Foresters’ Lodge and representatives of other lodges. D.C.E. Bro. C. Robertson performed the unveiling ceremony, and in doing so said that the tablet was to commemorate for all time the names of those members who had served their King and country in the Great War. It was not necessary to have such a reminder for the present generation of Foresters, but the future generations would need it. Of a total membership of 189, the Court Excelsior had sent no fewer than forty-six of its members to the war, and out of that number ten had laid down their lives. It was a record to be proud of. In the whole district, out of a membership of 3,200, 989 had gone an active service, and of these 161 had been killed. This record was a very creditable one, considering that a very large number of their members were over military age. Bro. W. H. Reay briefly replied on behalf of the returned soldier members.

During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Shepherd and Messrs H. M‘Kay, Booth, and P. Haigh, Miss Bxittell acting as accompanist. After the unveiling ceremony was concluded a dance was held to selebrate the forty-fourth anniversary of the lodge.
