Tho witnesses called by Hie police at tlio Magistrate’s Court in support of a charge against Henry Park, fishmonger, of Adelaide road, Wellington, of having sold* fish unfit for consumption, were most emphatic in their statements. Two had been mado violently ill, they said, by the little fish they had eaten from their parcels of fish and chips, and another thought best of taking a part of the fish homo to his cat. Paris stated that ho had bought forty schnapper. from the markets on the dav in question, and said that if tho fish sold to tho complainants was “on tic turn” it was by an accident. No other complaints bad been made to him, and on all occasions he took full care in preparing his fish. He had been willing to refund the purchase money or to exchange the fish, but those offers the men refused. In answer to Sub-inspector Willis, Paris admitted that he had been convicted of a similar offence previously. Tho Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt) said that the public must be protected, and that the Act placed an absolute liability on tho seller to see that the goods sold were what they should be. There were two charges against Paris, and a fine of £lO and costs would be imposed on each. Another romance has been added to the history of British Columbia silver mining. A few years ago Pedro Salina bought at mine at a sheriff’s sale, bio bought it in lieu of os wages due him for working there. He and a brother carried on work, and after some years uncovered high-grade silver that netted them £1,500 in three days.
