RED CROSS SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of tho Rod Gross Society was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (president), Misses Rattray, Williams, and Graham, Messrs C. B. Smith, E. A. Rosevear, and 0. Speight. Letters were received from Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and Matron Holmes, of Wakari Hospital, expressing thanks for goods supplied to soldier patients; and an acknowledgment from St. John Ambulance Association of assistance rendered by Miss Williams and fellow-workers in connection with street collection. Several letters were received from headquarters, Wellington.—Secretary to advise Wellington that this centre oould do with some available deck chairs, if serviceable; and in regard to crippled children in military hospitals to reply that this is answered by a previous resolution, viz. : “Have no funds available for this object.” Following upon Mr Rosevear’s interview' with Lieutenant-colonel O’Neill, it was reported that more soldier patients were now being accommodated at Woodsido Hospital. Re Joint Council—St. John Ambulance Association and Red Cross Society—it was agreed that tho committee confer with the St. John Committee. Tho secretary was instructed, inter alia, to write the city engineer in reference to crossing at Montecillo that needed attention.

Mr Rosevear referred to the case of an ex-soldier whom ho had met, and who appeared to be depressed through physical disabilities. —Matter left in Mr Rosevear’s hands in meantime. Mr King mentioned the sad case of another ex-solclier lying at his home seriously ill.—lt was unanimously agreed that the Red Cross supplement the assistance given by tho Patriotic Association in the matter of providing a trained nurse. Messrs Smith and Rosevear reported that the Woodside and Montecillo Homes had been visited by Colonel Yount*, the new Military -Director for Otago and Southland. Colonel Young spoke in high terms of the institutions and management, and what he saw more than boro out the good reports he had received. Satisfactory reports were received from the matrons fit Montecillo and Woodside. At the former homo there are at present twenty-nine patients, and at tho latter eighteen. The financial statement, as submitted, was adopted, and a number of accounts passed for payment.
