SALVATION ARMY APPEAL
The Salvation Army are having a street collection to-morrow (Thursday) on behalf of the orphans’ appeal, under the auspices of the Returned .Soldiers’ Association. This orphans’ home is expected to he completed about the middle of next month, and it is capable of accommodating about 100 girls ranging from the age of throe and a-hnif up to sixteen. The cost of the homo and ground will run into the vicinity of £B,OOO to £IO,OOO. The returned soldiers in the Otago portion have all received collecting cards, and are doing remarkably well. The City Council granted permission to the Aimy to have Friday as their day; but on account, of the Red Cross and .Ambulance Association having an appeal on the same day, the. Salvation Army, in order not to clash with the Red Cross Association, and with the, agreement, of the Red Cross Society, decided on Thursday. They ask for a liberal support to lite many box-holders that will be found on the streets. The Army work has stood all dining the war for the sake of our soldiers who bravely fought for King and country.
