CONCILIATION COUNCIL
The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr TV. 11. Hagger) held a sitting of the Conciliation Council this morning to hear the industrial dispute which had arisen between the Dunedin Brush and Broom Union of Workers and the Otago Brush Company, Ltd. The dispute was practically settled out of court, and Mr Hagger congratulated tho two parties on __ their .amicable settlement. Messrs A. K. TV. Skow, T. Smith, and IL Breen appeared •as assessors for the union, and Messrs H. G. Williams, J. Farrell, and A. G. Cookson represented tho employers. Tho, following are the terms of the agreement Hours, forty-four; overtime, tune mid a-half for tho first three hours and double time thereafter. Wages : First shaper hand, 2s per hour? second shaper hand, Is 8d; wood turner, Is 10-d; brush finisher, Is lOd; sawyer, Is 9d; all other adult male workers, la 7d, pins a-bonus of 3jjd per hour. Junior male workers: First six months 15s per week, second 10s, third 21s, fourth 245, fifth 275, sixth 31s, seventh 335, eighth 40s, ninth Is per hour, tenth Is 2d per hour. Female workers (for llw same successive periods) 15s, 10s, 21s, 24a, 275, 31s, 335, 40s, 455. In addition to these wages there shall bo paid to females over twenty-one years of age a bonus of 3s fid per, week, and to all other weekly workers a bonus of 3s per week, and to hair workers a bonus to bo fixed. Piecework must ensure tho worker'at least 10 per cent, more than the. minimum rates, plus any hourly or weekly bonus. The award is to operate throughout tho Sand Southland district, and to no for a period of two years.
