CHRISTMAS SERVICES

The Christmas services at St. Paul’s Cathedral were well attended throughout the'day. Canon Nevill took the 7 a.m. and the Bishop the 8 a.m. celebration. The Bishop preached at 11 on ‘ The Meaning of Christmas.’ At 8 p.m. a cantata of sacred music was given by the choir, under Mr Heywood, who used the new organ for the first time in a service of sacred music. Unfortunately, the failure of the electric current spoilt the second part of the serviee, which, was concluded in semi-darkness. At Holy Innocents,, Woodhaugh, evensong was said by Canon Nevill, who also preached. Carols were sung by the choir, the men’s solos being taken’by Messrs Dean and Hogg and the treble by E. Ashby. The carols were: ‘The Manger Throne,’ ‘The First Nowell,’ ‘Hymn for Christinas Day,’ and ‘Good Hmg Wenceslas.’ All the music was thoroughly prepared, and owed a great deal of Us excellence to the work lately done for the choir festival at the Cathedral. Mr Geoffrey Clarke was the organist, as usual.
