UNION CANCELS REGISTRATION '• CHRiSTCHURCH. December 23. A meeting of the Amalgamated Society cf Engineers was held in the Trades Hall to-night, about 200 being present, to consider the question of taking drastic action with regard to the recent reduction of the cost of living bonus. The following resolution was* passed:— That this branch of the Air.a'ieamatecl Society of Engineers immediately cancel its_ registrator) under tho Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. and that our delegates on the Iron Trades Council bring the matter before the boilermakers and moulders' delegates, with a view to the-m taking the same action ; also, that we notify other centres, asking th'em to do the'same. •GENEEQUS TRAMWAY BOARD. ' NO DEDUCTIONS FOR OVERPAY. CHRISTCnURCH, December 23. It is understood that the Christchurch Tramway Board will continue paying the 9s cost of living bonus to its employees until January 3* and after that, in" accordance with the Arbitration Court's decision, the bonus will be reduced to 3s per week, but no deduction will .be made in respect of the 6s per week which has been overpaid for the month:- of November and December. At the same timo, the board's speci.il long-service bonus, which was withdrawn as a result of -some dispute with the Tramway Employees' Union, will bo reinstated as from the beginning .of the new year. While the men object to a .reduction in the Court's last'bonus, thev admit that the board is treating them well in this respect. If they decided to make a determined stand against a reduction in the amount of bonus," they could only declare a strike of some form or another, and they realise that it would react most of all on the heads of the people of the working classes; therefore, any such action is highly improbable.
