SCHOOL VACATIONS

MOSGIEL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. ~ was a very largo attendance at the annual school break-up and concert of -the Mosgiel District High School last evenmg. Mr John Williamson was in the chair, and; an excellent programme of choruses, marches, dialogues, etc., was gone- through by the children. Mr J. M. Dickson, M.P., who donated the dux medal, presented* ibis prize to the winner, ■Miss Hazel Mavis Sim. Reynolds, Free Kindergarten, Masandrew toad, took place this morning, in the presence of a large gathering of mothers and their friends, the class room being filled to capacity. This school, like others in the City, caters for infants from the age of three to that ol five years, and the little ones entered heartily into the spirit of the festivities. The room, was tastefully decorated with, paper chains, lanterns, silver bells, gold . stars, and holly, and altogether presented a truly Christmas scene. The children had been ' engaged for some time past preparing suitable Christmas presents for their fathers and mothers, and the little ones were amply rewarded for their kindly thought in the pleasure which these presents evoked. , The children, under the charge of the principal, Miss R. Darling, assisted by Miss M. Gray and Miss A. Dnthie, entertained those present with a programme of songs, games, etc-, and a very pleasant hoar was spent in listening to- the sweet voices. The feature of the display by the children was the exhibition of rhythmic movements, the band selections in particular meeting with warm approval. This revealed evidence of special study and care- - fol training on the part of Miss Darling and her assistants. At the conclusion of the display the Hori. M. Cohen, M.L.C., delivered an encouraging and appropriate address.
