The members of the North-east Valley Church of Christ, on Saturday evening last, tendered to Mr James Weir a complimentary social. There was a good attendance of members and friends. Mr Weir, for the past 35 years, has been an active and faithtiu member, and has acted in' the capacity ot treasurer for the same length of time-' and it was on account of his resignation from the latter office that the members wis.ied to acknowledge his faithful servr CC vir t— n °f the church members Mr V>. King presented Mr Weir with a pair oi ebony military brushes suitably inscribed. A. very enjoyable evening was sp"ent, a special feature being a number of impromptu speeches on various subjects. Mrs A. Croon was declared the winner, her subject being ‘Should Women Vote?’ Supper was served by the lady members of the church, the lollowing rendered items;— The Misses Blackie (solos and recitation), Miss Meek (recitations), Miss M. Benjamin and Mr L Benjamin (solos),. Mr W. R. Beadle (saxol phone solos).
