CHAMPION COLTS MEET. Man-o’-War (America) beat Sir Barton (Canada) in the match for 75,000d0l and a-gold cup valued at 5,000d01. The race took place at Windsor,- Ontario, and the distance was IJm. Man-o’-War won by seven lengths. V.A.T.C. RAGES. For the second day of the Caulfield spring meeting the watlier was. fine and bright, and there was .a good attendance. The going was fair. Salatis, the topweight, made moot of the running in the Mona Nursery Handicap, and won well. The winner, who was ridden by a native of Auckland, Ralph Horne, is owned hy the well-known breeder, .Mr J. Mills. Principal results :—. iMona Nursery Handicap Salatis (8.13) 1, Stare (8.0) 2, Sonora (7.9) 3. 'Twenty starters. Salatis led for the last three furlongs, and won easily by three lengths, Sonora filing half a length away, third. Time, 58sec. Herbert Power Stakes.—Tangalooma (8.11, F. Dempsey) 1, Druinmoro (8.8) 2, Double Bezique (7,7) 3. Seven starters. Gringalot was in front at the mile post. Drummore was first into the straight. Tangalooma, who -was fourth in the early stages, came fast and won by a short half-head, a length and a-half' between second and third. Time, 2min 23 sec. Coongy Handicap.—Ulster Boy (6.12) 1, Paratco (7.3) 2, Alilat (7.9) 3. Won by three-quarters of a length, half a neck between ■ second and third. Time, 2min 22£ sec. NOTES FROM CANTERBURY. Another contingent of Eiccarton-trained horses with engagements at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting left for the south to-day. _ The trainers represented were : F. Christmas, with Kilrush. A New York cable states that Cleveand has won the world series of baseball matches, taking five games to Brooklyn’s two. Interest in the series revived toward the end, the populace being satisfied that no breath of scandal was attaching to either’ team. NEW ZEALAND’S TENNIS CHAMPION. G. M. Ollivier left Christchurch for Melbourne last _ night. He has been chosen to play in the Victorian Lawn Tennis Championships, and on his form there depends his chance of being included in the team' to represent Australasia against the United States in the Davis Cup contest. LADIES’ GOLF. Miss Withers won the tie for first place in first round of the Ladies’ Provincial Golf Championship at Wellington. The first round resulted as follows : Mrs G.
