OBITUARY
CHARLES ALEXANDER, EVANGELIST. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, October 13. (Received October 14, at 10.50 a.m.) The death is announced of Mr Charles M‘Gallon Alexander, evangelist.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
[The late Mr Alexander was horn in Tennessee, U.S.A., almost exactly 55 years ago. _ Since 1802 he had been prominently associated with evangelistic work as ah organiser, singer, and choir conductor. From 1902 to i 906 he made an evangelistic torn- of the world with Dr Torrey, and made the Glory Song famous throughout Christendom. Later he made a similar tour in Company with Dr J. Wilbur Chapman, of New York. He conducted daily for two months in the Royal Albert Hall, London, the largest evangelistic choir (4,000 members) ever organised. He compiled many hymns. In 1904 he married Helen, daughter of the late Mr Richard Cadbury, of Birmingham.]

A well-known figure in Auckland for many years past, Lieutenant-colonel H. Parker, died on Sunday last at Devonport, Auckland, at the age of 75. Lieutenantcolonel Parker was the son of an Imperial soldier, and spent part of his boyhood at Howick. He was at one time boarding inspector in H.M. Customs at Auckland, and for many years was in command of a • revenue cutter on duty in the early days, when smuggling was rife. Lieutenaptcolonel Parker was connected witli the volunteer movement in Auckland in the very early days. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic oarsman, and took a prominent part in whaleboat racing. He was also one of the founders of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee, of which body he was chairman for many He was in Into years a member of the New Zealand V. nanus’ Association.
