CHRISTCHURCE, October 12. •At Riccarton this morning Warlike, assisted over the first six furlongs by Clean Sweep and the last three by Sans Souci, put up a capital performance by getting to tlte end of nine furlongs in lmin 55 3-ssec. This was the best accomplished this season, and it was done in nice style.
Mr W. Stone, of Invercarglll, who was on the track, and was in treaty for Clean Sweep, purchased the black gelding after the gallop; but "Templar" in tonight's 'Sun' states that Pearson may have _ charge of him till -after the Cup Meeting. Then he joins M'lvor's team. Arrowsmith, unassisted, was responsible for a very brilliant performance. Jumping off at the six-furlong post on the heavy plough, he dashed through it and finished up brilliantly at the vanning post in lmin 15 l-ssec. This was the best performance at Riccarton under the conditions for a long time. BOXING. Owing to the lack of interest shown by local amateurs, the executive of the Boxing Association have decided to cancel the amateur tournament, which was to have been held on October 26 and 27. LAWN TENNIS. The New South Wales Association have purchased the area previously occupied by White and Catty, at Rush'cutte/s Bay, and intend to construct 40 courts. The association will sell their present grounds at Double Bay. OAULFIELD CUP. The following scratchings are announced:—Richmond Mains, Yarrajdool, Slyvaport, President Fjold.
A Sydney cable mentions that Mr G. D. Greenwood (Christchurch) has tfold Dewdrop to Mr Percy Miller at a satisfactory figure. %
