On noticing that it was proposed to start work on the Beaumont-Roxburgh Railway, Mr A. S. Malcolm, M.P., sent tha following message to the Minister of Public Works:—"l emphatically protest against this railway being started -before the Clutha Valley Railway. The Bal-clutha-Tnapeka Mouth Railway was authorised in 1912, and money voted for construction the same year. The Roxburgh line was only -recently authorised. The other surveys asked for by Clutha Valley settlers should be carried out at once, the route determined, and construction commenced. We have waited eight years now,since Parliament authorised the" line and voted money, and this wonderfully fertile and extensive agricultural district should get justice."
