UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the University Council was held this afternoon, the Chancellor (the Pev. Dr Cameron) presiding. . The Chancellor congratulated tho Vicechancellor (Sir John Roberts) on the honor conferred on him by His Majesty the King. The Works Committee reported: MrAnsccmbo (architect) had written (a) that the new home science building would be completed within two weeks; (b) that a start had been made with biology extensions; (c) that the tenders for the physics building and for the heating of the University buildings will close on June 14; (d) he forwarded a sketch of proposed tennis court; (e) he forwarded suggestions re remaining portion of Tanna Hill.—ltems (a), (b), (c) were noted. The chairman, Dr Benham, and tho registrar wero asked to report as to the proposed tennis court ; and Dr Benham and the registrar were asked to report further as to remaining portion of T/anna Hill, it being suggested that they obtain a sketch with sun dial on top of the stone. The Chancellor in his annual report stated : —The growth of the University at the present time is prodigious, tho number of students in attendance during 1919 showinir an increase of nearly 50 per cent, over the number attending during the previous year. The problem of accommodation has therefore become very f-erious. I am glad to be able to record, however, that the new Home Science Fohool is almost ready for occupation, and this building should provide for the needs of the department for -some 'years to come. Dr Ferguson moved—" That the Finance Committee report on the desirability of insuring against liability for accidents to students."—Carried.
