EROSION AT ST. CLAIR

FURTHER CONSIDERED BY CITE COUNCIL. _ Two communications from the Ocean Beach Domain Board were received by the City Council last night: Ono, informing the council of their opinion that it would be in the best public interest if their functions were vested in the council, provided satisfactory arrangements could be made_ with St. Kilda Council; and two, submitting a revised estimate of tho cost of the protective works at St. Clair, and asking for further financial assistance. It was stated that the cost in smht iva-> now £3,000 instead of £1,500. ° . Cr Clark said he moved the motion at the meeting of the Domain Board and would now move that the first question be referred to the Finance Committee for a report. The whole thing hinged on the question whether satisfactory arrangements could be made with the adjacent borough. C r M‘Dona’(’ seconded, and suggested that the Finance Committee might hold a conference with tho St. Hilda Council. The Mayor : That will of necessity folCr Clark : It will follow. The motion referring the matter to tho Finance Committee was carried. Cr M speaking in regard to ? he second question said he took it from *ho reports that the Domain Board intended to spend £6,000 on groynes, which probably was an admirable idea, but what was giving concern to the residents at presant was the steps necessary for present protection in case of another south-wester Cr Wilson said there would be no difficulty, according to the present feeling of the council, in the board getting more money if it was required. ° The second matter was also referred to the Finance Committee.
