ST. CLAIR BEACH.
TO THE EDITOR. ' j Sir, —Tour correspondent 0. J. Watt- j son says " Jettison the cargo and save ] the ship" by destroying the esplanade, j What a ridiculous euggestion. Alt should | be thankful that the esplanade is there, j That spot, at least, is safe. The fact j that the sea seldom reaches the concrete j fn.ee should suffice to relieve that work of ! the blame. The stones at the foot have j :io doubt something to do with the exo-1 sion. When viewing thf> beach yesterday j from the_ sandhills I noticed a number of f-tones lying on. the aand. Round each of these atones a hollow ring was to be teen, caused by the backwash striking the stone and scouring out the sand round it. Tins process went on continually, the stone.?; settling down as the beach lower Id. Looking along the beach from alj-rea-st of Moreau street, a distinct dip can- be seen where the stones are. Wherever on the eoast one goes, sand and stones are not found together; either on-e or the other, but not both. Where stones exist the action of the, wavee round the stones will result in the sand being carried out. I therefore lay the blamo of the erosion to the stones on the beach. I would like to see a '.' working bee" inaugurated for Saturday afternoon to gather up all the stones that lie on the beach at the foot of the sandhills. I believe this would prevent a farther lowering of the beach. I hope no more stone is deposited than is absolutely essential to protect property. In my opinion more stone means less sand, unless " Old Identhe ecout is carried am, etc., Obseevast. tfune 2.
