ORPHANS' CLUB
3he Duiiedm Orphans' Club opened their 1920 season last night at theirrooms in Security Buildings. The president (Bro. G. W. M'lntosh) to in the chair, and pn excellent programme wis offered for the entertainment "of the mimber of members and visitors present. The President, in welcominj members, urged upon them the necessity for menf;tiieiiing the bond of brotherhood, this all voiiM do. whether performers or not. He read a telegram from the Aw:hjand Orphans conveying i'ratemai greetings, also from pome former member. Later the President congratulated Bro. Uheian on winning the tenc horn championship of New Zealand at the recent contest. The following contributed items durin" the evening :—Smgs : Bros. T. Bauchop' J. -*. Haggif. S. Jeff,. Carr. Kellv, Bmhards (Inyercargill Orphans)'. Pou-r (Wellington Orphan-), and' Zcislev : recitation. Bro. H. Russell: stories. Bro P. Solomon; tenor horn solo. Bro.' Whebn. The club orchestra rendered several selections, and an instrumental quartet also provided some attractive music. Disappointment was expressed that it had been found impossible to arran-f for the Prince of Wales to visit the clTih rn Tuesday next, and it was decided t'nat a--many members as possible should assemble on the balcony of Messrs Beg:* and Co.'s premises on Monday evenimflo aive the visitor a real orphans' welT-ome as he passes.
