RAVEN SBOURNE. The attendance for the year ended 31st March 1920, has been as follows; June quarter, 1919: Average attendance 189, average roll 205. September quarter, 1919 : Average attendance 180. average roll 198. December quarter, 1919: Average attendance 191, average roll 205. March quarter. 1920: Average attendance 182, avi'rv.e roll 193. The annual examination was conducted by Inspectors Bossence and Hardy, who reported in favorable terms on the work of the school. During the winter months cups of cocoa were supplied to the pupils at very reasonable rate. The opportunity of obtaining a hot drink in the middle of the day during winter was much appreciated, and was availed of by nearly all the pupils from a distance. During the season a swimming class was conducted by Mr Buchan, first assistant, himself an expert swimmer, who obtained from the Borough Council the use of a shed at the. side of the harbor for a dressing shed. The committee highly appreciate Mr Buchan’s voluntary work in this direction, ability to swim being an acquirement particularly valuable to lads belonging to a seaside suburb, who are frequently engaged in bathing or boating. " ° Throughout the year classes from the school attended the Dunedin North Technical School for instruction in woodwork and cookery, and the municipal oaths for instruction in swimming. Rev. A. Gray, with the cordial approval of the committee, continues his valuable work weekly Bible instruction to the pupils of the upper standards. Books to the value of £6 14s wore added to the school library, and the pupils have already 7 a considerable sum in hand acquired by saving cocksfoot seed front the waste spaces in the borough, for the purcliase of a further supply of books for next vear.

During the year a great improvement over the old method of drinking from mugs was effected by the establishment by the board of two drinking fountains, and the school and outhuifeiings, which are kept scrupulously clean by the caretaker, Mr Hutton, received their periodic coat of paint.
