At a meeting of the committee of the ns iron anneal branch of the Otago Inptitntc, held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr R. Gdkipon presiding, ii- was decided to accept the offer of the City Council of ;t site on the hill in the Botanic Gardens for a telescope house. The branch have poPFo-sion of an excellent 3ia telescope, bequeathed by the late .Mr A. Beverley, and this is to he housed. It is hoped, however, that a iauger tckf-cope may eventually he procured, and the aim wiil be to have a house suitable for receiving such an instrument. It is to be hoped that the branch will secure a large accession of _ members, and that the public v, ill exhibit a live interest in the Maintenance of facilities for study and records iu the fascinating field of astronomy. interesting evening meetings of the branen are anticipated during the* coming season.
