LORD JELLICOE APPOINTED [Pkh Ukitsd Press • Association.} WELLINGTON, April 16. The Governor-General announces that the King has been pleased to appoint Ad-miral-of-the -Fleet Viscount Jellicoe of Scapa, G.C.8., 0.M., G.V.C.0., to succeed the Earl of Liverpool as Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Dominion of New Zealand. Viscount (John Rush-worth) Jellicoe of Scapa was born on December 5. 1859, and adopted a navy career. In 1882, at the bombardment of Alexandra, Lord Jellicoe first saw fighting, along with Lieutenant Kitchener. Over 30 years later Lord Jellicoe and Lord Kitchener stood at the head of Great Britain’s sea and land for->s in the world’s greatest war. It was fr- V tbs great harbor in tho Orkneys, which was created during |he war, that Lord Jellicoe takes his title. In 1902 he married Diorence Gwendoline, daughter of Sir Charles Cayzer, a well-known shipowner. They have one son—the Hon. George Patrick John Rnahworth Jellicoe, bom on April 4, 1918—and four daughters. The Kinu was sponsor at the christening of the heir” and gold cups were presented by His Majesty and by the Navy. During August and Septcrnoer last Lord Jellicoe visited the Dominion, and spent a couple of d&s in Dunedin.
