FIRST TO BOWL GRACE.

A noted figure in Victorian and Australian cricket passed away in the late Harry | Boyle. He first came into prominence when ’ he captured eight for 80 for 22 of Bendigo ' against a - strong Victorian eleven. and i helped ins side to an innings victory; but I h-o won fame by being the first man in Aus- , tralia to clean bowl the famous W.G. In - his first match at Lord’s he captured six j for 3, and was instrumental with Spofforth 1 in disposing of the famous M.C.C. for 19 runs. He was noted for his great pluck, and created the position of “ silly ” mid-on, where he made some wonderful catches. He always measured off his bowling distance, and was rarely guilty of a no-ball. ! He was a famous length bowler, rivalling the famous Englishman, Shaw, in this re” spect, and was deadly on a sticky pitch. : His total figures for five lours in England— I viz., 1878, 1880, 1882, 1884, and 1888—are ! worth quoting; 592 wickets for 5,356, averaging 9.28.
