ORPHANS’ CLUB

, 1 ' n e twenty-second annual meetinr* of tne Dunedin Orphans’ Club was held in the club room, Stuart street, Bro. G. W. M'lntosh presiding. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated members on the very successful season they had had last year. He was pleased to observe the bond of goodfellowship which had made itself manifest tmoughout the club. This fostered good feeling, and helped greatly towards toe social enjoyment of their meetings. The present membership of the club stood at 234, and as they were in a sound financial position the prospects for the ensuing year were very bright. _ They had been very fortunate in obtaining the services of Bro. J. Coombs as conductor of the orchestra late in the season, and the speaker was pleased to announce that Bro. Coombs yonld resume with the orchestra tins vear. Ihe club had suffered an irrecoverable blow on the death of Bro. G. B. Laidlaw. a most valued member of the club. To all members who had worked so hard in various capacities towards the success of ■ their evenings they owed their bestthanks.—The motion was earned. A motion of sympathy w-ith Bro. C. E. Osborne on the recent death of Ids wife was earned. A vote of condolence with Bro. J. B. M’Connell in his serious illness was also passed. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President. Bro. G. W. MTntosh (re-elected) • vice-presidents—Bros. A. C. Hanlon, S. Solomon, K.C.. J. J. Clark. 0.8.E.. T. W. Dobbie, and H. F. Nees (all re-elected); committee—Bros. W. R. Waters, R, Bryant, G. E. Withers, A. Sligo’ t! Rnddiman, R, Park. jun.. and A. IT. Cavcll; hon, auditors, Messrs G. M. Mac Lean and T. IT. Thompson; lion, secretary and treasurer, Bro. R, C. T. Evans (re-elected). The opening night was fixed ns Tuesday. May 11, the succeeding gathering to take place on June 1; thence fortnightly.
