AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE OTAGO MEETING. 'VARSITY WIN BANNER. The Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held an Otago provincial championship meeting at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon, which attracted a large number of spectators. The University Club easilywon the championship banner for most club points, and 11. K. Sumpter won the F. M. Reid challenge shield for the most individual points in the senior events. The j officials had everything running smotohly, and no long intervals between event* occurred. Messrs L. Phillips, H. W. Outram, P. W. Breen, F. M. Reid, and G. Galloway acted as judges, and Messrs T. Williamson, W. Kernohan, and J. Nelson as timekeepers. During the afternoon music was supplied by the Band of the 4th (Otago) Regiment. Hill came up to first place in the second round, with Evans second. In the third and fourth round these rjositions were maintained, and M. Hill (Pacific) came in first, with G. On the last round Evans shot ahead and kept a lead, winning' bv about 12 yards, Hill second, with Forbes third 20 yards behind the second man.
