A special meeting of the members of the Utago Centre of the above association was held at tiie Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening tor the purpose of dealing v,-ith the case of L. A. MAllen. who is alleged to have entered for the Sheffield Handicap at haitangata la s t Boxing Day, whereby he broke iiis amateur status. The President (.Mr E. A. Rosevear) presided, and the secretary (Mr C. Thomas) read the correspondence dealing with the question. Mr J. Oliver (secretary of the Kaitangata Ciub), under date of the 18th. inst., wrote that MAllen'e entrance form could not be_ found or was mislaid. Considerable discussion took place ai to whether there was anv proof in the possession oi the centra to warrant further inquiry. M'AUen wa.s called in., and stated that he did not enter for the Sheffield Handicap, although he was qn the ground, neither did he know that anv friend made an entry on his behalf. After considerable discussion farther inquiry was adjourned till the next monthly meetmg of the, centre, M'Allen meantime to be allowed to compete at to-day's champion meeting if he s o wished. The motion to this effect was carried on the casting vote of the chairman. The secretary was instructed to ask Mr Oliver, secretar- of the Ivaitangata Club, to make" a further search for the entry alleged to have been made by M'Allen, CRICKET.
