TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL
Cr Blackie presided ovsr the monthly meeting of the Taieri County Council, held at Mosgiel yesterday. The Fin?V:e Committee recommended that accounts totalling £1,222 8s 5d bo paid, also reported that the receipts tor the past month, had totalled £-7,618 Is Bd.^—Received. The engineer's report was adopted. A letter was received from 10 residents of Woodside petitioning council to gravel Bell's road from Mr Frater's to Mr Maxwell's, and stating that the road as at present would be impassable for school children in the winter.—Resolved to gravel the Woodside roads, The sanitary inspector reported having inspected all the slaughter-houses in the county, also tho piggery at Green Island, all of which were in good order. Council had received several complaints re offenr sive matter beinsr cast into Whare Creek at the Outram Glen; had inspected the place, and found portions "of a dead horse and a dead pig in the creek. He saw the person responsible, who had removed the cause of "trouble. Complaints had also been received about' the condition of Abbot's Creek, Fairfield, and he found a wool-scouring plant on the bank of the creek, all the refuse from which was deposited in the stream, which was in a filthy condition; recommended that ' the owners of the works be given notice to desist from polluting the creek.—Recommendation adopted. The ranger reported having visited the various ridings during the month, and hai found wandering 23 cattle and two horses. —Received. Messrs Leishman Bros, -wrote re access to a coalfield on property at Whare Flat.—A discussion took place between Mr Dave Leishman and the council, in whicli many difficulties presented themselves re roading. Nothing definite was decided on, but the council advised certain action, ■which; might enable Mr Irishman to succeed in. his object.
