Waihi.—Tie prospects of an early action to bring about a settlement of the Waihi dispute are brighter, a telegram having been received here this nionsim; from Mr Arhuekle. secretary of the Coal Miners' Federation, that the Prinn Minister is prepared to arrange a conference, subject to the niine-owne.v, consenting to the chairman being the Concilia' tii.ii C:!!ii!iii.«ioiifi'. with Mr O'lic-urke to act for the men. Mr Arbuekk advised th<: nun to accept the suggestion, and this course was adopted. It is understood that the conference will be held at the earliest moment. At a special meeting of tho Chamber ci Commerce the'president (Mr G. K. Matheson) was appointed to consult with the Prime Minister in reference to settlement of the strike. He, in company with the Mayor (Mr Donaldeon), left for Wellington this mornings
