STREET COLLECTION
FOR ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. A collection for a worthy cause was taken up in the streets of the City to-day. This was a special effort by the Hospital Helpers' Association for the beneilt o$ the &t. John Ambulance Association. Several of the stands had stalls in connection with them, and these stalls were stocked with a large assortment of miscellaneous articles. The country people, especially the Taievi residents, were very ceuerous in forwarding donations, and several of the schools provided a number of the contributions to the stalls. The usual carton badgas were eold at Is- each". At lunch hour good business was reported to have beei done at the various stalls throughout the morning, there being a raady response to the appeals of the " box shakers." The Forbury, Mus3olburgh, and Caversham Schools sent along generous donations, and the girls from theso schools came in-and assisted at the stalls and with the collecting. Contribution* were also sent in from Palmereion, Wai.kouaiti, Seacliff. Milton. Balclutha. Sterling, Lovells Flat, Waihola. On tram, and Henley, and from the residents of the City and suburbs. Several monetary donations were also received. The following is a list of the stalls and those helping: —Jacobs'e Corner. Kart-tane-Harris Hospital; Stock Exchange, St. John Nursing Division; Grand Hotel, Mesdames Baker and Macfie; Bank of N.Z., Queen Victoria Convalescent Fund; Government Life (Catholic stand), Mes-' dames Skinner and Foster; H.B. Corner, Y.M.C.A.: Strand Corner, 'Salvation Army; Octagon seat, Miss Geerin; Sprosen's corner. Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society; City Boot Palace, Alj Saints' Church and St. Helens Hospital; Mollison's corner, Knox Church.
