Special interest was taken in the New South Wales 222 Yards Swimming Championship, owing to Ross, the American champion, competing. The race resulted as follows:—Ross 1, Kirkland 2, Longworth 3. The six days’ cycling race at Sydney was won by Spencer and Osteritter (America), Grenda and Corry (America) being second, and Wells (New Zealand) with Stevens (Victoria) third. Only seven teams finished. They covered 910 miles. From Sydney comes news of the death of the racehorse Rebus. He had won nearly £12,000 in stakes. Rebus, who was owned by Mr J. Lemon, was regarded as the best handicap horse in Australia. He won, among other events, the Sydney Cup, the Epsom and Doncaster Handicaps, and the Villiers Stakes. He was by Radium (Bend Or—Tqia), from Quibble (St. Frusquin—Pie Powder), and was foaled in 1914, his breeder being the late Mr Leopold De Rothschild, at Leighton Buzzard, Bucks England.

All British, the Solferinn—Marta gelding, purchased for 190gs by Mr A. Murdoch at the sale of Mr Reid’s yearlings at Christchurch in November, 1918, has started six times this season. He was unplaced in the Trial Plate. at Knrow and in two starts at the D.J.C. Spring Meeting, but has since scored successively at Winton (Trial), Dunedin Summer (Burnside Handicap), and Invercargill (Eosedale Handicap). The, four-year-old gelding Heathercote, who fell while racing at Ellerslio on Friday and broke a shoulder, necessitating his destruction, was a smart performer ae a two-year-old, at which age he won the Dunedin and Canterbury Champagne "Stakes. He was a disappointment last season, as he only won one race, though he was placed on several occasions. He opened the present season hy winning at Ashburton, after which he finished third in the New Zealand Cup. Heathercote, who was by Boniform—Heatherbrae, 'was bred 'by Sir Georgs Clifford, in whose colors he raced.
