MODELLER FOR MEDICAL SCHOOL. A deputation consisting of Dr Barnett, Dr Gowland, Dr Drennan, Colonel Pickerill, and Major White waited on the council to suggest the appointment of a modeller in connection with the Medical School. Dr Barnett said that in the past the Medical School had fpnnd that great advantages were derived from the use of models. Most of those they had were of plaster of paris, and the bulk of them were in the anatomical department. Other medical schools had large collections of models in wax, plaster of paris, and other materials, and men were employed who were specially skilled in work of the kind. Colonel Pickerill came out here accompanied by an able mechanical staff which had enabled the making of records which were a revelation. It was felt that work of this kind should be extended to other departments of the school. One of Dr Pickerill’a staff was a skilled modeller and painter, and it was felt that his services should be retained for the various departments, particularly the anatomical, pathological, and surgical departments. There was no doubt that his services would be extremely valuable. The other members of the deputation also spoke. Colonel Pickerill stating that the modeller in question was. a sergeant attached to the jaw section and trained at -Home. - r His services would not be required in the section after a few months more. . Dr Ferguson, in supporting the deputation’s request, stated that these models were_ worth from £5 to £lO each at Homo, and if the modeller could make them here in two or three days for each he would soon pay for his salary. Dr Ferguson outlined some of the necessities for such models' in all departments. The matter was referred to the Finance and Medical Committees, with power to act. GENERAL. The question of the continuation of the class on economics for business men was left with the Chancellor. With reference to the extension of the physics department.
