The following is a typical one:—"That this branch asks the general secretary what steps, if any, are being taken by the Executive Council to enforce our.demands for a living wage for our members and their dependents. 0 We wish the executive to understand that our demands are an urgent necessity, and that we are prepared to take step's, however drastic, to obtain relief from the conditions now existing if the department does not immediately drop the ' go-slow' policy in connection with the increase in our wages, long overdue." The Hawera branch of the Engineers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association carried a motion entering an emphatic protest against the action of the Government in introducing a system by which they allege the weekly earnings are to be considerably reduced, and calling on the executive to take what steps they deem necessary to secure a living" wage" '
