ST. KILDA COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was hold last owning, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. D. Edgar) and Ore' J. Dove,' R. Telfer, J. Ritchie, S. Garbtttt, H. Seddon, A. A. Campbell, O. Dersem, E. Lonawouh, R. W. Hall. The acting city electrical engineer wrote stating that it was quite passible to erect a seiies of street lomps at the corner of Qiuurv and Ferguson streets, at an estimated cost cr*' £o2 13s Bd.—The letter was referred to the Finance Committee for consideration and report. Aletter was received from the Department of Agticulture. Industries, and Commerce stating ihat (he plant known as lantana had. by Order in Council, been added to the Noxious AVeecis Act. The Works, Water, and Lighting Committee reported that the storm water menace complained of in Bird street had been jt'tcncled to. The committee, recommended that the work of raising the centre of the Queen's Drive with rotten rock be. continued to Bowen street, at an estimated cost of 200.—The report was adopted. The Finance, General, Tramways, and Ilall Cgmmittco reporicd that the picture entertainments given in the Coronation Hall were not paying ar, well as wns expected, and the picture were desirous of reducing their booking from four nights per week to one night, and one matinee. They a>ked if the. council would agree to this 'alteration, and what the rent would be. The committee recommended that the rcn'a! for the Saturday afternoon and evening be Fixed at £1 10s. They recommended that the council make a donation of £3 3e towards the Boy Scout movement. Society stating tha'fc they were unable to accede to the council's request to stake the trees in Royal crescent. The committee recommended that 'the council donate the proceeds of all the band concerts to be given between now and the date of the Southern Districts Fire Brigades' demonstration, to be held in St. Kilda during Carnival Week, towards the demonstration funds; also that the matter will bo again considered at the end of January. Further, that tiie St. Hilda Band be informed that the council raised no objection to them giving their concerts as quickly as possible, and also, if the brigade required additional concerts, the bund to be at liberty to give the same. —The report was adopted. The inspector's report covering the work carried out in the borough during the pa.-t. two weeks was adopted.
